Drones are on the news everywhere from military operations to commercial uses. They are impacting our personal and commercial aspects of everyday life. From the hobbyist that tinkers with flying one around his neighborhood to the supercharged 4K live video streaming commercial drone, drones come in all shapes and sizes. Much of the credit goes to military use and research on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Remote Piloted Vehicles (RPVs) that led to the evolution of drones for civilian use.
An Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a sort of flying machine which has no onboard passengers or crew. UAVs incorporate both remotely piloted vehicles (RPVs) and autonomous drones. A UAV is fit for controlled, managed level flight and is a jet powered, responding, can likewise fly upside down or electric engine. In the 21st century, drone technology and innovation came to a state of modernity that the UAV is currently being given an enormously extended part in numerous areas of aviation. Many people think that UAV is just a cruise missile type but it is not like that! The difference between UAV and cruise missile is that UAV is recovered after the mission but cruise missile destroys its target and is not recovered back. A cruise missile is actually one of the types of munitions whereas, a military UAV can carry and fire munitions on board.
As the Federal Aviation Administration has put forward rules and regulations on drones, we expect to see plenty of pilot less tiny planes flying over places like AT&T Park in San Francisco, home of the World Series champions. But off course, not during the game! Recently, FAA grants drone permits to few real estate companies and agriculture sectors. In real estate photography, Douglas Trudeau of Tierra Antigua Realty in Tucson, Arizona, became the first real estate agent who can legally use a drone. It seems the day is not far when big shopping stores like Amazon.com will deliver your orders by drones and you don’t have to wait for much for your products.
CB Insights, the research firm venture reported that financing in drone start-ups doubled in 2014 to $108 million, with Ehang one of at least 10 companies to have received one or more rounds of institutional funding to date. Forbes reported that the financing reached $50 million leading by Qualcomm Ventures. 3D Robotics, the biggest U.S. drone manufacturer, in their report, said, ‘it was raising $40 million in a funding round’.
Drones are linked to mapping software and embedded with sensors making it smart enough to avoid colliding with buildings or flying over no-fly zones. It was first tested in San Francisco on the Ghost Aerial plus and the scene was recorded by a GoPro camera on board.
Drones were one of the major things discussed at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) International conference 2015 that happened in Las Vegas. Drones are unmanned, remote-controlled vehicles that fly in the air. But this time drones were more sophisticated in looks as well as functionality. Many new startups and crowd funded teams launched drones at the show and were appreciated a lot. Some of the highlights of CES 2015 included drones of all types with their enormous uses from home to military purposes.
The major drones showcased at CES 2015 include:
- AirDog
- Bebop Flying Action Cam
- Ghost –Â Ehang
- Phantom 2 Vision+
- Zano Mini-Zone – Proto X
- Yuneec’s Q500 Typhoon
- eXom by Parrot
- Hexo+
Their sizes vary from one with the size of a footprint of a business card to giant drones used by the military. The width of drones available is quite amazing and their uses are not limited to aerial photography and videography.
Whenever we talk about drones, DJI is the first name that comes to our mind. DJI manufactures different types of drones like flying platforms, flying cameras (ex. Inspire and Phantom series), flight controllers for multi-rotors, accessories for helicopters, camera gimballs (aerial, handheld) and ground stations. These products are for professional, industrial and personal use. All these drones have to abide rules, regulations and guidelines by the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure proper operation of these vehicles.
The DJI’s revolution was the launch of Phantom 2 Vision+. It has a brand new and extremely stable 3-axis gimbal, to which is attached the sharp and powerful DJI-designed camera. Some of its major applications include:
- Ready to fly
- 3-axis camera stabilization
- High-performance camera
- HD Recording:1080p30 /720p60
- Camera tilt control
- Camera parameter settings
- Album synchronization
- Film straight down
- Stable hovering and Precision flight
- Onscreen real-time flight parameters
- Radar positioning & return home
- Supports Adobe DNG RAW
- Adobe lens profile support
The Phantom 2 Vision+ leads in the new era of aerial cinematography. It is because of this only; professional imaging tools become easily accessible to everyone.
Parrot is another wireless products manufacturer company that design, develops and markets consumer products for tablets and smartphones as well as high technology solutions in UAV and Automotive business. Some of the best drones from Parrot include Parrot Bebop Drone, Bebop Drone SkyController, Parrot Zik 2.0, Parrot MiniDrone Rolling Spider, Parrot Flower Power, Parrot ASTERIOD Tablet, MKI Range and more. Â
Drones are useful in many ways, some of which are mentioned below:
- Drones are life-saving
- Capture images of devastating military destruction
- Drones are even portrayed in video games and some TV series also like Homeland
- There are enormous commercial opportunities for filmmakers, journalists, mappers, archaeologists, roofers or real estate agents
- These are used in oil pipeline monitoring
- To catch Anti-smuggling narcotics
Drones are a part of a larger technology evolution called internet of things (IoT). A user from Tokyo can now remotely control a drone in New York from their smartphone. Contact us today to learn more about IOT and how it can benefit your organization.
